LagosLagos Western Algarve

With a seafaring tradition dating back to the 15th Century, Lagos was the base of Henry the Navigator before he set out on his voyages of discovery. The ancient walls are steeped with history, but Lagos is a youthful town nowadays with a delightful charm all of its own. The ancient maze of cobbled streets co-exists happily with the elegant new marina and Meia Praia is one of the longest beaches in the Algarve. Lagos has a great selection of restaurants, great shopping and lots to do at night.

The older part of Lagos is still circled by the city walls that were constructed during the 16th century when it was the residence of the governors of the Algarve and the fort, Ponta da Bandeira, by Batata beach is part of the 17th century fortifications that were added to protect the town.
