Almancil
Within easy reach of beaches, excellent golf courses, and Barringtons Sports & Health Centre. This is a small town of approx. 20,000 inhabitants located 17km west of Faro airport (20 mins by car) and 6km from the coast (10 mins by car). Just before Almancil, the church of São Lourenço comes as a surprise development.
Built in the eighteenth century, it survived the earthquake of 1755 and retains its superb fully tiled interior depicting the life of St Lawrence - in particular, graphically illustrated panels of his martyrdom. Almancil is the nearest town to the well known golf and coastal resorts of Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo. The town maintains its small village charm whilst containing various shops, services, supermarkets, newsagents, fabulous bakeries, restaurants, bars, as well as a pharmacy, lawyers, dentists, and a medical center. Sports Facilities Apart from the many golf courses nearby, there are 3 tennis centres, a Go-Kart track and two water slide parks.
